ABERDEEN - The Rev. Robert Louis Smitherman Sr., 72, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at the Grenada Living Center in Grenada. He was born March 25, 1935, in Aberdeen to Prentiss Grady and Bertie Mae Barnes Smitherman. He lived in Aberdeen most of his life. He was a minister for 35 years and had been retired for seven years. He founded the Aberdeen Church of God of Prophecy and served as its pastor for many years. He pastored many churches in the surrounding area during his years as a minister. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Church of God of Prophecy. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1953-1956.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the McDuffa Church with Sis. Lounez Scriviner and Bro. Roger Browning officiating. Burial will be in the McDuffa Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Lee Smitherman of Glen Allen; four sons, Robert Louis Smitherman Jr. and James Timothy Smitherman, both of Grenada, Calvin Cedric Smitherman of Aberdeen and Prentiss Edward Smitherman of Greenville; two stepsons, James M. Holley Jr. of Glen Allen and Danny Holley of Anguilla; two stepdaughters, Sharon Lee Bell of Olive Branch and Lisa Ann Smitherman of Grenada; four sisters, Mary Smith and Christine Forester, both of Una, Margaret Guest of Pheba and Beatrice Nelson of Aberdeen; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.

Pallbearers will be Jason and Richard Smitherman, Lance, Jay and Ryan Holley, and Bobby Bell.
