LAKELAND,
Fla. - Mr. Rodney Burke, 90, of Lakeland died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005,
at his home. He was born March 14, 1915, in Winston-Salem to Mammie
Burke Holt.
Mr. Burke attended Bethel United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem,
N.C. He
retired from White's Motor Co. in Canton, Ohio. Mr. Burke was a veteran
of the
U.S. Army, and served in World War II. He was preceded in death by his
first
wife, Alma Burke; and his second wife, Eileen (Smitherman) Carter
Burke. Surviving are five generations of family, including two
daughters,
Elizabeth Beaver of Hartville, Ohio, and Janice Miller of Melbourne;
four
grandchildren, Pam Hull and husband Guy of North Canton, Ohio, John
Capper and
wife Sally of Hartville, Ohio, Lona Rae McKinney and husband Tyler of
Clemmons,
N.C., and Glenn Burchette and wife Tammy of Winston-Salem; seven
great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; his cat, Bea; a
stepson, Sonny
Carter and wife Nan of Clemmons; two stepdaughters, Geraldine Hayes and
husband
Don of Winston-Salem and Judy Briggs of Winston-Salem; six
stepgrandchildren;
and five stepgreat-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted
at 2 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 19, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with the Rev.
Dana
Wooten and the Rev. G. Thomas Shelton officiating. Interment will
follow in
Friedberg Moravian Church Graveyard. The family will receive friends
one hour
before the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials
may be
made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 2390 Bethel Church Road,
Winston-Salem,
NC 27103.
