SMITHERMAN ROSEMARY SHARP August
10, 1919 -July 31, 2010 Rosemary Sharp Smitherman, 90, of Birmingham,
passed away Saturday, July 31, 2010. She was preceded in death by her
husband Fitts J. Smitherman. She is survived by her daughter Ann
Smitherman Sanders and husband Ken Sanders of Birmingham; granddaughter
Christine Sanders McKiernan and husband Major Lawrence T. (Mac)
McKiernan of Knoxville, TN, and grandson Kenneth Fitts Sanders and wife
Wendy Moody Sanders of Birmingham; great-grandchildren Anderson Kurt
Sadler McKiernan, Rosemary Parker McKiernan and Leila Glendon Sanders
and several nieces and nephews. She grew up in East Lake where her
family owned Sadler Grocery for 60 years. She is a graduate of Woodlawn
High School and attended Howard College where she was a member of Alpha
Delta Pi sorority. In 1945 she and her husband founded Smitherman
Plumbing and Heating Company and she later became President of S&S
Associates. Rosemary was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class at
Mountain Brook Baptist Church, Celestine Literary Club, Concordia Study
Club, Ridgeway Garden Club, Crestwood Circle Garden Club, NRA and
Republican Women's Club. She was also the Past President of the State
of Alabama and Jefferson County Mechanical Contractors Auxiliary. She
was preceded in death by her parents Christine Sadler Sharp and her
father Horace Hamblin Sharp; sister Wilda Sharp Keeton and brothers
William Horace Sharp, Howard Sharp, Frank Sharp, Fredrick Anderson
(Ted) Sharp and Col. Charles Elton Sharp. Memorial Service will be held
in the Chapel at Mountain Brook Baptist Church on Tuesday, August 3 at
2:30 p.m. with visitation to follow in Hudson Hall, Dr. James D. Moebes
officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain
Brook Baptist Church, 3631 Montevallo Road, Birmingham, AL 35213-4205
or the Presbyterian Home for Children, 905 Ashland Highway, Talladega,
AL 35160-2586.
