roy malvin smitherman
Roy M. Smitherman, age 73, of
DeLeon, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at his residence. He
was born on March 21, 1935, in Stephens, Arkansas. He was united in
marriage to Nancy Stewart on May 30, 1957,in DeLeon, Texas.
Mr. Smitherman was retired from Phillips Petroleum where he was plant supervisor in Alvin, Texas. He graduated from DeLeon High School and served in the U. S. Army National Guard. He had lived in DeLeon since 1986, coming from Alvin, and was a member of DeLeon Church of Christ.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2008, at DeLeon Church of Christ with Kris Groda officiating and assisted by Geof Litke. Burial followed in the DeLeon Cemetery. Pallbearers were Brandon Smitherman, Luke Perry, Ronnie Kea, Danny Kea, Jon Remmington, Paul Burton, Quincy Brumbelow, and Bob Smitherman.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Smitherman of DeLeon; son, Ricky Smitherman of Shreveport, LA; daughter, Tammy Lea Littleton of Baton Rouge, LA; step-dad, Lloyd Dixon of DeLeon; sister, Ellen Kea of Crane; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jerry Smitherman.
