Mr. Samuel Alvis
"S.A." Poindexter Jr., 81, passed away Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at
Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was
born
June 14, 1921, in Yadkin County, to Samuel Alvis and Cordelia Williard
Poindexter.
Mr. Poin-dexter was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Iona
Watts,
Verna Taylor, Dale Poindexter, Fred Poindexter, Molly Poindexter and
John
Poindexter, and two half sisters, Alma Hemmings and Nina Prim.
Surviving are
his children, Cathy (Al) Hill of Rural Hall, Janice (Archie) Hicks of
East
Bend, Susan (Herb) Bierly of Penn-sylvania, Mark (Kim) Poindexter of
Fuquay-Varina, Stan (Regina) Poindexter and Molly (Tim) Riley of
Virginia
Beach, Va.; a sister, Lillian Smitherman of Pfafftown; three
brothers, Clint Poindexter of East Bend, Gray Poindexter of Boonville
and
Gorrell Poindexter of Yadkinville; nine grandchil-dren; and three
great-grandchil-dren. The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m.
Sunday,
Oct. 20, 2002, at Huff Funeral Home Chapel in East Bend by the Rev.
Kenny
Gooden and the Rev. Clay Tucker. Burial will follow at Friendship
Baptist
Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m.
Sunday, Oct.
20, 2002, before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made
to the
Gideon Memorial Bible, P.O. Box 1943, King, NC 27021.
