KING - Mrs.
Sharon Smitherman Burnette, 50, passed away Tuesday, Nov.
19, 2002, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. She was born
June 30,
1952, in Forsyth County, to Joe Smitherman and Maymie Scott Collins.
Mrs.
Burnette graduated from Mount Tabor High School and enjoyed a 25-year
career
with the National Labor Relations Board as an office manager. She was
an avid
gardener, a loving wife and mother, and a treasured friend. Survivors
include
her husband, Dillard L. Burnette Sr. of the home; a daughter, Melissa
A. Kelly
and husband Bruce of Tampa, Fla.; a son, Lyle Burnette Jr. and wife
Tammy of
King; her mother, Maymie Scott Collins and her husband, Wayne "Doc"
Collins of Tobaccoville; her father, Joe E. Smitherman of
Winston-Salem; two sisters,
Pat Buckner and husband Mickey of Siler City and Donna Smither-man of
Winston-Salem; as well as many special nieces and nephews. The family
will
receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening, Nov. 21, at Slate Funeral
Home in
King. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at
the
funeral home. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorials be
made to
the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC
27103.
