Shelly Ray Smitherman, 52, of Alford passed away Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at his home following an extended illness.
Smitherman was born in Bay County in 1954 and made his home in Jackson County. He was of the Baptist faith and was a lifelong employee of Triangle Construction. He was a member of the Compass Lake Sportsman Club and enjoyed cast net throwing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Smitherman and Minnie Smitherman; and one sister, Beatrice Taylor.
Smitherman is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Wanda K. Smitherman of Alford; two sons, Donald Ray Smitherman and Donnie Lee Melvin, both of Marianna; one daughter, Laura Ann Smitherman of Alford; two brothers, Cas Smitherman of Alford and Buddy Smitherman of Springfield; and two grandchildren, Natalie Jade Baggett and Dustin Ray Smitherman.
Services for Smitherman will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 1, at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Burns and the Rev. Buddy Smitherman officiating.
Interment will follow at the White Pond Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Sept. 30, at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m.
