Tommy Michael Smitherman, 61, of Clanton, passed away suddenly on Aug. 1 at his residence.

He was born in Clanton on Sept. 1, 1952, the son of the late Ruben Smitherman and the late Melinda Merle Davis Smitherman.

He was a backhoe operator.

He is survived by his wife, Rochelle Smitherman of Clanton; sons, Michael Anthony Smitherman, Tommy Jay Smitherman, Derek Lee Smitherman and Steven Michael Smitherman all of Clanton; daughter, Lisa Martin Lenoir of Clanton; seven grandchildren; brothers, Wendell Smitherman, Ronald Lynn Smitherman and Ruben Ray Smitherman all of Clanton; sisters, Delilah Smitherman, Tina Lewis and Sweet Davis, all of Clanton.

He is preceded in death by his grandsons, Justin and Austin Smitherman; parents, Rube and Merle Smitherman; brothers, Willie Smitherman and Roy Lane Smitherman and a sister, Mary Smitherman.

The family received friends Aug. 4 after 5 p.m. at New Hope Assembly of God Church.

Funeral services will be held Aug. 5 at 2 p.m. from New Hope Assembly of God church with the Rev. Kelvin Smitherman and the Rev. Austin Ball officiating.

Burial will follow in the Old Macedonia Baptist Cemetery in Clanton.
