Tonia
Jane Carter, age 45, slipped peacefully into the arms of Jesus Tuesday,
September 24, 2013 at Texoma Medical Center after a long and courageous
battle with cancer. Mrs. Carter was born December 31, 1967 in Ft.
Worth, Texas the daughter of Danny and Jane (Woodson) Smitherman. She
married the love of her life, Lance Carter April 16, 2005 in Denison,
Texas. The great joys of her life were her family and friends and her
faith in Jesus Christ. She enjoyed the outdoors and family gatherings.
Tonia fought hard to stay with them all for as long as she could. Her
life was a true testimony of what it means to be a devoted wife,
mother, grandmother and sister. Her passing leaves a void in so many
lives, but her indomitable spirit will dwell in our hearts forever.
Mrs. Carter is survived by her beloved family, husband, Lance Carter of
Denison, TX, children, Ashland Carter, Dillon Hobbs, Shealynn Hobbs and
Drew Puckett, grandchildren, Aiden Hobbs, Anna Hobbs and Rachel
Puckett, mother, Jane Smitherman of Denison, TX, sisters, Lorie Embry
and husband, Kevin of Tom Bean, TX, Dana Johnston and husband, Rodney
of Cartwright, OK, Shandra Douglas and life partner, Rachel of
Brownwood, TX and Laura Strong and husband, Charles of Van Alstyne, TX,
brothers, Danny Smitherman of Tom Bean, Lee Douglas and wife, Christie
of Denison, TX, Steve Smitherman of Ft. Worth, TX and Michael Douglas
and wife, Mary of McKinney, TX, father and mother in law, Dean and
Linda Beelar of Gore, OK, brother in law, Scott Carter of Tulsa, OK,
sisters in law, Robbie Lee and Keely Riley both of Hanceville, KS
numerous nieces, nephews and special aunt, Barbara Hoket. Graveside
services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 27, 2013 at Cedar
Cemetery with Rev. Michael Douglas officiating. There is no set time
