T.S. "fayette" smitherman

T.S. Smitherman died at 10 o'clock yesterday morning at his residence on Terrace street, after a long illness.  The remains will be taken to Cleveland, Tennessee for burial.

The deceased who was one of the best known young men in the city, was 28 years old, born in Polk county and a son of Jesse Smitherman who died at Cleveland seven years ago.

Nine years ago the deceased came to Chattanooga and engaged in the coal business, the firm being T.S Smitherman & Co.  He was a moulder by trade, and at one time worked at the Wasson Car Works.  Two years ago he was taken sick with slow consumption and moved to California in the delusive hope he might regain his health.  Returning to Chattanooga he gradually drooped away, until last Friday, when it was seen that he was dying.  A few minutes before his death yesterday morning he said he was perfectly resigned and was ready and willing to die.

The funeral services will be Pythian in their character, teh deceased having been a member of the Knights of Pythias.  A brief service at the home and more extensive ceremonies at Cleveland, will be conducted by Rev. T.C. Warner of the city.

The remains will be accompanied to Cleveland at 2:40 p.m. by a large number of friends and the following pall bearers selected from the Knights of Pythias:  Warren Henderson, W.J Selman, R.N. Phillips, F.O. Wert, I.C. Schneider and E.G Huffaker.
