YADKINVILLE - Mrs. Vera Smitherman Poindexter, 92, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at Yadkin Nursing Care Center following a period of declining health since 1997.

 She was born Oct. 31, 1912, in Yadkin County to Tommie Daughton and Emma Mae Beane Smitherman. She was a charter member of Maplewood Baptist Church in Yadkinville. On Jan. 1, 1937, she was married to Joseph Howard Poindexter, who preceded her in death Dec. 1, 1981.

Surviving are her two sisters, Jamie S. (Tom) Perkins and Pauline S. Oldham, both of East Bend; nephews Tommy Perkins and Jerry and Randy Wall; nieces Carolyn Graham, Anne Adams and Sue Brown; and the Poindexter family nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today, Jan. 17, at Maplewood Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Lancaster and the Rev. Richard Eskew officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Maplewood Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Maplewood Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 576, Yadkinville, NC 27055.
