Mr Wiley J Smitherman, 78, Parkersburg, West Virginia, died Nov. 7, 2005 at the Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.  He was born July 8, 1927 in Watauga County, N.C., a son of the late Harvey M. and Berlie M. Millsaps Smitherman.

Mr Smitherman was retired from Bordon Dairy as a truck driver and served as a U.S. Navy veteran during World War II.  He also enjoyed camping and hunting with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Carte Smitherman; four children, Sandra K. Wilson of Parkersburg, Angela D McLeod and husband, Brian, of Ocean Springs, Miss., Kenny Carte, Jr. and Scott Carte, both of Ravenswood; ten grandchildren, Shawn A. Fluharty and wife, Jenny; Chase E. Fluharty and wife, karen; Michael C. Field and wife, Gerri; Kristi D. Wilson and husband, Tim; Kristina D. Brown, Ashley, Sammy, Logan, Mason and Trevor Carte; six great-grandchildren, Olivia and Emily Fluharty, Peyton and Parker Field, Austin Wilson, and Matthew Carte; and one brother, Earl Smitherman and wife, Beulah, of Parkersburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Kelley Smitherman; two daughters, Pamela Sue Field and Cathy M Smitherman;great-grandson, Dillon Wilson; and one sister Kate Childress.  A gathering of friends and family was held Saturday, Nov. 12 from 1-3 p.m. at Mineral Wells Baptist Church to celebrate the life of Mr. Smitherman.  Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society.  Online registerbook at www.LeavittFuneralHome.com.
