Luther Smitherman departed Saturday morning for Los Angeles Calif., where he was called because of the death of his brother, David.

He planned to meet his brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Smitherman in Denver. Colo., and continue to Los Angeles with them.  The Ernest Smithermans reside in Keenseburg, Colo.

David Smitherman was interred in California following his own request.  While the telegram Luther Smitherman received did not clearly state the date of death it was presumed to be on last Friday morning.

The deceased was born on the Smitherman farm two miles southwest of Hayti, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Smitherman.  He was 58 years, two months and 17 days old.

In addition to his two brothers, Luther and Ernest, he is survived by three sisters; Mrs. Lee Anderson, Mrs. Walter Barnes and Mrs. Roy Haley, all of near Hayti.(Missouri Herald, 31 Jan 1947)
