W. Gray Smitherman, aged 36,
prominent farmer of East Bend township, Yadkin county, died at the
Lawrence hospital this morning at 12:30 o'clock. Mr. Smitherman
has been in ill health for the last eight months, but was taken
seriously ill about ten days ago and rushed to the hospital here.
The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. W. G. Smitherman, three children: his mother, Mrs. Nancy Smitherman; four brothers, L.L. Smitherman, Robert Smitherman, and Ambrose Smitherman, of Yadkin county and J. Harold Smitherman of this city; and also one sister, Mrs. H.O. Wooten, of Vass.
Mr. Smitherman was a member of the Junior Order and the I.O.O.F. and prominently connected with both of these lodges in this county.
Funeral services will be held from Baltimore church, Yadkin county, tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will take place in the church graveyard.
