WILLIS E. SMITHERMAN, 82, Crestwood Village, Manchester Township, died Monday at Community Medical Center, Toms River.

He served in the Army for 28 years, retiring as a colonel in 1969, and he also did watch repair. Mr. Smitherman was the founder of the Monmouth County Ham Radio Club; past Master of F&AM. Washington Lodge 9, Eatontown;.and a member of Royal Arch Mason Hiram Chapter 1, Reef Bank; Kych of York Cross of Honor Royal and Select Masters Red Bank.

Born in East Bend, N.C., he was stationed in several areas of the U.S. and Europe before moving to Crestwood Village 4 1/2 years ago.  

Surviving are his wife, Patricia Donaldson Smitherman; a son,  Edward, Winston Salem, N.C.; a daughter, Ingrid Woods, Long Branch; a sister, Mary Alexander, North Carolina, two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, Manchester, is in-charge of arrangements.
