My name is Brian Smitherman.  

I was born in 1967 in New Castle, Indiana.  

My parents are:

Tony W Smitherman (10 Dec 1941 - Aug 18, 1993)
Connie Yvonne Long (25 Nov 1942 - ?)

My paternal grandparents were:

Winslow Byron Smitherman (3 Jan 1905 - 19 Jan 1961)
Mildred E. Carender (3 Jan 1917 - 23 Apr 1989)

My grandfather was born in East Bend, North Carolina and came to Indiana in the early 1930's with his brothers Dallas and Gaither.  They traveled to Indiana to work for Chrysler.

I had always believed that I was of German descent.  My father had told me so.  I somehow remember being told by someone that my name in German was pronounced Smi'terman.  When I began doing research it didn't take me long to find out that I was actually of English descent. 

I didn't have a lot of information when I began doing the research.  My father rarely spoke of the Smitherman side of the family.  It seemed that they, as a family, were not that close to one another.  I've never fully understood this, seeing that I always wanted my family to remain close.  I do realize that there are things in life that happens, that we may not be able to control.  This website is my attempt to bring the Smitherman family together.
