Family
and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life in remembrance
of Beverly McCrory Smitherman on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at 11:00 in the
morning at First United Methodist Church in Starkville. Visitation will
be at the church from 9:00 - 10:45 before the service. Beverly passed
away in her home surrounded by family and friends on Friday, May 10,
2019, at age 69.Beverly was the daughter of Rosamond Smith "Mac" McCrory and Mary Ethelyn Giles McCrory. She was born on February 15, 1950, in Union, Mississippi, grew up in Macon, and lived most of her adult life in Starkville. She treasured her family and embraced every moment with them. Beverly was the loving and devoted wife of Emmett, mother to Emily Morris, Katie Young and Bill Tarlton, and “BeBe” to Luke (3) and Clara (1). Beverly is survived by her brother Mike (Peggy) McCrory and was preceded in death by her parents and brother Doug. Beverly cherished Emmett’s siblings like her own and leaves behind Jim (Debbie) Smitherman, Jane McNeil, Sissy Smitherman, and many nieces and nephews whom Beverly loved dearly. She treasured her extended family, near and far, and kept them close with reunions and trips to South Carolina and Montana.
Beverly loved hours in the backyard with her flowers, specifically her roses, taking care of others, traveling and exploring new places, and spending time with friends. She was a renowned hostess, loving to throw a great party and make others feel special. Beverly and Emmett were known for their legendary Mardi Gras parties over the years. She was an amazing cook and known for her signature “Aunt Nellie’s rolls.” Beverly was a past president of the Starkville Woman’s Club and of the Rose Society of Starkville. She also participated in many other organizations over the years including Junior Auxiliary, Jaycettes, First United Methodist Church Choir, Holidates Dance Club, and Oktibbeha-Starkville Emergency Response Volunteer Services (OSERVS). An avid reader, bridge player, seamstress, and animal lover, Beverly was always on the go and surrounded by friends and flowers.
Beverly was a hairdresser for over 50 years and the owner of Cachet Designs for approximately 30 years. She truly had a gift for making others feel special and had many long-term clients who more often than not also became close friends. Beverly most recently was a stylist at Park Place where she truly felt like part of their family.
In her spare time, Beverly enjoyed supporting Mississippi State University. She enjoyed left field lounge, tailgating at football games, traveling with the women’s basketball team and listening to the MSU band. Most Friday nights, Beverly and Emmett could be found at the Starkville Country Club enjoying the fellowship of close friends.
