everette butner

Everette Butner passed away at Brookridge Baptist Retirement Community on Monday, February 8th. Everette was born in Tobaccoville, NC to William Oscar and Sadie Kirby Butner on May 21, 1927. Mr. Butner served in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. Everette was always proud to be considered a veteran. He was first employed by Hormel, Inc. and retired from the USPS. Everette and his wife, Gladys, were longtime members of Maple Springs United Methodist Church.

Mr. Butner was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. His hobbies included woodworking, working in his garden, and tinkering. He was an excellent problem solver, and enjoyed learning and talking about his family history. He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters, Ruth Lawson (Gray), Ruby Tuttle (James), Leah Alderman (Hoover), Margie Hooker (Jack), Iris Willard (Fred), Brenda Waller; and two brothers, Johnie and Bill Butner.

Everette is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gladys Ann Smitherman Butner; two daughters, Emily Bundy (Peter) and Cindy Bell (Craig); granddaughter, Sara Smith (Bruce); step-great-granddaughter, Lillian Smith; a brother-in-law, Johnny Waller; numerous nieces and nephews; and best friend Vernon Ingram (Peggy).

A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 12th in the Gazebo at Forsyth Memorial Park. Mr.Butner will lie in state from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Thursday, February 11th at Salem Funeral Home, 2951 Reynolda Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
