Mary Jane Smitherman, 81, passed
away on March 26, 2021 at UAB Medical Center, Birmingham, AL. She was
born on February 10, 1940 to Joseph Zamiatala and Martha Werner
Zamiatala in Omaha, Nebraska.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Francis University Church (811 Fifth Avenue, U of A campus) on April 10, 2021 at 1:00. Visitation will be from 12:15 to 1:00. Face masks will be required.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Marvin Zamiatala, and her daughter, Shelley Mounce.
She is survived by her husband Joseph Smitherman; her children Linda Davidek (Jerry), Joleen Rice (Curtis), and Scott Smitherman; her sister, Amy Zamiatala, her brother Stephen Zamiatala (Frieda); her grandchildren Jerry Davidek, Jr., Chris Davidek, April Shourek (Allen), Tina Eltiba (Tamer), Megan Bradford (Tyler), Chad Cole, Amber Smith (Rick); and 12 great grandchildren.
She was a loving wife and mother, and an adoring grandmother and great grandmother. She was a wonder friend and an inspiration to her church family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Francis University Parish RCIA program.
