Bruce R Smitherman, 60, of St Rd 267 died Sunday afternoon at the Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, where he had been a patient for five days.  He was a lifelong resident of Mooresville.

The son of Walter J and Frances White Smitherman, he was born at Mooresville on Oct 28, 1933.  He married Mary Katherine "Kay" Stohler on April 1, 1956, and she survives.

A 1955 graduate of Indiana University, Smitherman was an Army veteran, serving in Tokyo, Japan and a graduate of the U.S. Army Finance School.  He was treasurer of the former Smitherman Hatcheries.

He was former chairman of the Indiana Egg Council, a member of the Indiana State Poultry Association, past president of the Mooresville Chamber of Commerce, past vice-president of the Mooresville Lions Club and a former delegate to the state Republican Convention.

Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Elise S Montoya of Indianapolis and Kristin K Smitherman of Mooresville; a brother, Jack N Smitherman of Mooresville; a sister, Shirley A Pauley of Mooresville; two grandsons.  A sister, Sarile Smitherman, preceded him in death.

Calling hours are at Carlisle and Sons Chapel from 3 to 9pm today (Wednesday). Dan Smetzer will officiate at the funeral services at 10am Thursday at Mooresville Friends Meeting, where Smitherman was a member.  Burial will be in White Lick Cemetery.
