Ethel N. Clanton
Yorktown - Ethel Newsome Clanton, age 89, of Yorktown, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2000.
She was born in King, NC on October 16, 1910, and was the daughter of the late Rufus Newsome and Ella Vest Newsome Harris. She was the loving wife of the late Tolon E. Clanton.
Mrs. Clanton was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was a mother to a host of children, taking and nurturing them as her own. She will truly be missed by all that knew her.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Newsom and Jim Newsom; and a sister, Lena Frazier.
She is survived by a daughter, Trudy Clanton Gray and her husband Dave Gray of Yorktown; a son, Ted Clanton of King, NC; three grandchildren, Storm Gray, Derick Gray of Yorktown and Gary Clanton of King, NC; two great- grandchildren, Tolon and Brittney Clanton of King, NC; two sisters, Sally Smitherman of King, NC, and Zella Drosche of Houston; and one brother, Arnold Newson of King, NC.
The family will have a gathering of family and friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, at the daughter's residence in the Running Man community at 106 Occoquan Turning in Yorktown.
The family asks that memorial donations be made to Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters, 602 Children's Lane, Norfolk, VA 23505.
