Jack Nelson Smitherman of Fairhope, AL died at UAB Hospital on
Monday, September 12, 2011 at the age of 76. He was a native of Bibb County,
AL. Jack was the oldest son of the late Guy and Eunice Henderson Smitherman. He
will be missed by his wife of 55 years, Jimmie Ruth; his sons Mark, Jon and Pat
(Hope); daughter, Robin and daughter-in-love, Debby Marino; Grand-daughter,
Grace Smitherman; brother, Jimmy (Mary) of Summerdale, AL; sister, Sally Herron
of Centreville, AL; several nieces and nephews along with numerous other
relatives and friends. Jack was member of Fairhope Avenue Baptist Church; Greeno
Lodge 598 F&AM; Abba Shrine; Scottish Rite; OES #127; a 35 year member of
BPO Elks; and a Life Member of Telecom Pioneers who had worked for Bell system
for more than 30 years. He loved music and taught many young people the beauty
of the dulcimer, psaltery and penny whistle. He was loving and loved, a friend
to all he met. A memorial service will be held at Fairhope Avenue Baptist Church
on September 24, 2011 at 10 AM with Rev. James Hill officiating. The family
