PFAFFTOWN - Mrs. Lillian Poindexter Smitherman, 98, of Pfafftown died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born in Yadkin County on Oct. 16, 1906, to Samuel and Cordelia W. Poindexter.

Mrs. Smitherman was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. Mrs. Smitherman was a charter member of Old Richmond Evangelical Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Clyde Smitherman. Surviving are a daughter, Ruth, and husband Robert Buchanan of Durham; three sons, Jimmie and wife Jessie Ray Smitherman, Ronnie and wife Betty Jo Smitherman and Michael and wife Carol Smitherman, all of Pfafftown; three brothers, Clint Poindexter of East Bend, Gray Poindexter of Winston-Salem and Gorrell Poindexter of Boonville; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Old Richmond Evangelical Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bryant Madren and the Rev. Brian Law officiating. The church is located at 6151 Tobaccoville Road, Tobaccoville. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, to lie in state. Burial will follow in East Bend Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Oct. 4, at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend.
