EAST BEND -
Mrs. Olive "Dale" Davis Smitherman, 77, of East
Bend died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Elkin Healthcare Center. She was
born in
Surry County on Sept. 25, 1926, to Arthur and Lessie Belle Angel Davis.
Mrs. Smitherman
was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She was a loving wife,
mother,
grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Smitherman was preceded in
death by her
parents; a brother, John Davis; and a grandson, Adam Smitherman.
Surviving are
her husband of 60 years, Donald E. Smitherman of the home; her
children, Rick
(Barbara) Smitherman of East Bend, Danny (Fran) Smitherman of Boonville
and
Wanda (Tim) Burgess of Hamptonville; five sisters, Juanita Key, Freddie
Hobson
and Vernie (Max) Kirk, all of East Bend, Betty (Dillard) Simmons of
Mount Airy,
and Becky (David) Reavis of Pfafftown; four brothers, Ezra (Maude)
Davis of
East Bend, Paul (Beatrice) Davis of Boonville and James (Jean) Davis
and George
(Carolyn) Davis, both of East Bend; a sister-in-law, Vera Davis of East
Bend;
eight grandchildren, Candy (Kent) Shumate, Rodney (Jennifer)
Smitherman, Joshua
Smitherman, Krystina Koehler, Karen Koehler, Alison Burgess, April
(David)
Brown and Amanda (Shane) Adams; and seven great-grandchildren, Miah
Smitherman,
Annah Smitherman, Norah Smitherman, Stephanie Brown, Stephen Brown,
Kirsten Smitherman
and Adam Smitherman Jr. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m.
Saturday, July 31, at the Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Kent
Hogan
and the Rev. Ray Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the church
cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 30, at
Huff
Funeral Home in East Bend. Memorials may be made to Friendship Baptist
