Funeral and burial services for Thomas Edward Smitherman, Sr., 65, of Verbena, were held on Thursday, June 26, 1997 at the Pine Hill Cemetery in Jemison at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Calvin Smitherman officiating and the Martin Funeral Home directing.  Mr. Smitherman was born in Alabama on October 13, 1931 to the late Joseph E. Smitherman and Alvie Hand Smitherman.  He died in Verbena on June 23, 1997.  He is survived by four daughters and four sons, Jan Wilks, Hoover; Judy Dilday, Montgomery; Barbara Burt, Grandbury, Texas; Lura Swanner, Montgomery; Thomas Smitherman, Jr., Grandbury, Texas; Eugene Smitherman, Colorado, Kennith Smitherman and Michael Smitherman, Clanton; a sister and a brother:  Mrs. Dean Mims, Verbena; Elvin Smitherman, Clanton; and eight grandchildren.
