Funeral services for Ronnie
Wayne Smitherman, 70, of Alexandria, will be 2 pm Sunday, June 3, 2012
at United Fellowship Baptist Church with Dr. George Smitherman and Rev.
Tommy Reaves officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 12 – 2 pm at the church.
Mr. Smitherman died Thursday at Riverview Regional Medical Center in
Gadsden.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Judy Smitherman of Alexandria, one daughter, Tiffany Taylor Gomes (Javi) of Sneads Ferry, NC, two sons, Scott Smitherman (Dina) of Alexandria and Jeff Smitherman (Amanda) of Dadeville, AL, four grandchildren, Nathan Smitherman, Kayleigh Smitherman, Taylor Gomes and Nic Gomes, three sisters, Patricia White (James), Mary Hess (Charles), Glenda Mangham (Dennis) all of Alexandria, three brothers, Hugh Smitherman Jr., (Janice) William "Bill" Smitherman (Barbara) and Dr. George Smitherman (Diane) all of Alexandria, numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Smitherman is preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Zora Smitherman.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Smitherman, Nic Gomes, Phillip White, Brian Hess, Preston Smitherman, Rodney Smitherman, Dustin Mangham, Michael Wesson, David Wesson and Trell Taylor. Honorary Pallbearers will be Val Newton, Echols Bryant, Doyal Miller, Luther Quinn, Alton Holley, Larry Jones, Jimmy Stone and Jerry Strickland.
Mr. Smitherman was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. He was a charter member of United Fellowship Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Smitherman retired from the Anniston Army Depot with over 30 years of service. He was an avid Auburn fan.
