Ruth Smitherman May, 97, of Lenoir, NC, passed away, Friday, August 19, 2011, at
Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir, NC.
Mrs. May was born on March 28, 1914 in Watauga County to the late Joseph Young Smitherman and the late Lula Florence Rowe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie May, daughter, Sarah Dellinger, granddaughter, Kelly Renae Dellinger, and twin great granddaughters, Molly and Maggie Stanbury.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Lou May and wife, Reta of Shelby, NC; daughter, Beulah Whisnant and husband, Steve of Lenoir, NC; and sister Beulah Ward and husband, Harrison of Lenoir, NC; four grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. May will be held at Pendry's Funeral Home on Sunday, August, 21, 2011 at 3:00 pm with Pastor John Jernigan officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir,NC.
Serving as pallbearers will be family members.
