Mrs. Irene Smitherman Joyner, 93, of Pfafftown, died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born May 13, 1907 in Yadkin County to Carlie N. and Tennie Spear Smitherman.

Mrs. Joyner was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raleigh Stanford Joyner, in 1975.

Surviving are one son, Harry Joyner and wife Margie of Pfafftown; one daughter, Wanda Speas and husband Kreisler of Pfafftown; four grandchildren, Danny Joyner and wife, Debbie of King, Ronnie Joyner and wife, Lena of Pfafftown, Ricky Speas and wife Lesley of Winston-Salem, and Judy Speas of Durham; six great-grandchildren, D.J. and Jake Joyner, Sharon and Kimberly Joyner, and Christen and Jonathan Speas; a step-great-grandchild, April Jesse; and a sister, Edith S. Stone and husband Truman of North Wilkesboro.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at Huff Funeral Home Chapel in East Bend with the Rev. Ricky Speas officiating. Burial will follow at the New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Tobaccoville. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Kate B.
