Mr. Robert "R.B." Smitherman, 90, of
Clemmons Village II in Clemmons passed away Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007, at
Forsyth
Medical Center. He was born in Yadkin County on May 9, 1917, to Robert
and Ila
Hennings Smitherman. Mr. Smitherman was a member of South Side
Baptist Church. He was a volunteer fireman for 35 years for Griffith
Volunteer
Fire Department of Winston-Salem. He retired from Hugh G Strickland
Construction Co. Mr. Smitherman was preceded in death by his parents;
his wife, Bertha Pearl Smitherman; four brothers; and his daughter,
Marlene Crotts. Surviving are his children, Alan (Wanda) Smitherman of
Clemmons; Tom (Ginny) Smitherman of East Bend; a daughter, Polly (Gene)
Crews of Winston-Salem; a brother, Ed (Aggie Mae) Smitherman of East
Bend; a sister, Betty (Ed) Collins of Winston Salem; a very special
son-in-law,
Jeff Crotts of Marietta, Ga.; and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services
will be
conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at Huff Funeral Home Chapel in
East Bend,
with the Rev. Thomas W. Albert officiating. Burial will follow at Stony
Knoll
Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
today, Aug.
16, at Huff Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to
