Ronald A. Smitherman, 90, of River Road died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at his winter home in Naples, Fla.

A former Greenfield resident, who moved to Columbus in 1969, he was president of Smitherman Construction Inc., which he founded in 1972.

He was a member of Fairlawn Presbyterian Church, board of directors of Bar-con Vocational Building BCSC, Columbus Elks and Moose lodges and Bartholomew County Home Builders Association.

He also was a member of Bradley United Methodist Church in Greenfield, Greenfield Masonic Lodge and member and past president of Greenfield Lions Club.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fairlawn Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Steve Geckeler officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Myers Funeral Service, Hathaway Myers Chapel on Pearl Street, and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to donor's choice of charities.

Born March 25, 1912, in Aroya, Colo., Mr. Smitherman was the son of Arthur and Blanche Davis Smitherman.

Survivors include a son, Robert Smitherman of Columbus; daughters, Carol Sue Morris of Del Ray Beach, Fla., and Ronna Ruth Smitherman of Minneapolis; a brother, Donald Smitherman of Longmont, Colo.; a sister, Louise Greiner of Haviland, Kan.; grandchildren, Douglas Smitherman of Indianapolis; Laura Lynn Smitherman of Washington, D.C., Brian and Amelia Cress and Jennifer Fischer of Minneapolis; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Velma June Banbury.
